There’s a running joke among Prague locals – if you’re looking for the best coffee in Prague, just open up Google Maps and search for nearby cafes, and you’ll find it. There’s some truth to that statement: Prague is home to some of the best cafes and specialty coffee shops rivalling even neighbouring Berlin and Vienna, if I dare say so. Prague’s best cafes are scattered throughout the city, offering some beautiful and aesthetic spaces, phenomenal specialty coffee, fantastic brunch options and jaw-dropping pastries. My list of the best cafes in Prague is tried and tested by a local Czech (me!) – so save these spots for your next trip!

The 20+ Best Cafes in Prague

You could spend all month exploring the best cafes in Prague…But to make your life a little easier, I’ve narrowed it down. After testing Prague cafes for years, this is my comprehensive list of the best cafes in Prague.

Looking for foodie spots?

  • Find my favorite restaurants in Prague right here.
  • Grab my ultimate foodie guide here.
  • Find my favorite Prague bakeries here.

Without further ado… My favorite Prague cafes!

1. Kafemat

No trip to Prague is complete without a stop at Kafemat, one of the best cafes in Prague. The no-frills coffee offers no gimmicks: just the best beans and the best baristas preparing it. This cafe doesn’t have much in the way of pastries, either, but what they do have is normally excellent.

For what it’s worth: the hot chocolate here is excellent, too.

There’s not much in the way of seating at Kafemat – just a few sporadic stools and window stoops. But nevertheless, Kafemat is widely beloved by locals and considered to have the best coffee in Prague.

2. One Sip Coffee

One Sip Coffee is another beloved local spot often mentioned when recommending the best coffee in Prague – and for a good reason. The espresso bar lies tucked away outside Prague’s touristy center, away from the hustle and bustle. Here, they do a killer job serving some of the best coffees, including Candy Cane Coffee (which produce some truly excellent roasts). Keep in mind: they are closed Thursdays!

3. EMA Espresso Bar

If you’re looking for an aesthetic space perfect for working and catching up, head to EMA Espresso Bar. This espresso bar has several different locations, the most popular of which lies in New Town by Masarykovo nádraží.

There’s a lot to love here: fresh pastries from Alf&Bet (SO good!), skilled baristas and no more paper cups!! People come here for the coffee and stay for the lovely ambiance and laid-back atmosphere.

4. Pilot Cafe

Aerogeeks, beware! The airplane-themed Pilot Cafe, located near Prague’s National Technical Museum, is the perfect stop before or after your museum visit – or otherwise! The excellent brunch here is an added bonus, but their coffee (which tends to lean more on the bitter part of the scale!) is the true standout.

Pilot Cafe has multiple locations, but my personal favorite is their Letna location (the Pankrac area is more geared towards working professionals, in my opinion!).

5. IPPA Cafe

When asked about the best cafes in Prague, Prague locals will always recommend the beloved IPPA Cafe. Most people visit for the cakes (more on this later!), but the coffee here is excellent, as well and certainly worth a stop – especially if you’re sightseeing.

One of my favorite parts about IPPA Cafe? The sweets here – sweet treats, yes, but the cakes (!) – are truly delicious. And what’s a coffee without something sweet on the side? The elegant atmosphere and brunch are an added bonus.

6. Mezi Srnky

A table full of breakfast food at Mezi Srnky, one of the best brunch spots in Prague

Mezi Srnky may or may not be the most aesthetic cafe in Prague…and it may or may not be one of my favorites.

This bistro has a couple different locations in Prague around the city. Serving up all-day brunch, this cafe prides itself on delicious coffee, fresh dishes, seasonal produce and local ingredients.

Most days, they have a lovely variety of dishes, sweet treats and unique plates. It’s one of the few brunch spots in Prague that serves up vegan and veggie food, too.

7. Můj šálek kávy

Karlín’s Můj šálek kávy, sister cafe to Kavarna Misto, is run by the beloved Doubleshot Coffee Company.

This cafe is easily one of the best cafes in Prague thanks to its eclectic and cozy interior, delicious brunch options and tasty coffee. It lies in the heart of Karlin, an up-and-coming industrial neighborhood full of young students and corporate workers.

Not a fan of coffee? Their hot chocolate is excellent, too.

8. Mazelab

The interior of Mazelab Roastery, one of the best cafes in Prague for specialty coffee.

I can’t even tell you how many people have told me Mazelab has some of the best coffee they have ever tried. Mazelab Coffee is served at several different locations, but their roastery lies north of Prague in Dejvice (close to Kafemat!).

What stands out here is the clinical efficiency: top tier baristas, purposeful set-up and without a doubt a globally excellent coffee selection.

Be aware the pricing here can be a bit higher than normal, but it won’t be a cup of coffee you will easily forget.

Save this for later!

9. Format Coffee

Format Coffee lies on the bustling M. Horakove street, a stretch of road filled with some of the best restaurants, bakeries and boutiques in the hip Holesovice neighborhood.

Here, they serve the divine Mazelab roasts – but this Prague cafe is worth its own trip for the cozy vibe, friendly atmosphere and inventive brews (see: Ube latte!).

The vibes here are immaculate with plenty of places to sit – all around, an excellent spot to visit.

10. Typika

The interior of Typika in Prague, one of the best cafes in Prague for specialty coffee.

Typika has three different locations across Prague, but no matter which you visit, you are guaranteed to find a stellar cup of coffee.

The minimalistic, spacious interiors and relaxed vibe differs from other spots on this list – but people love their baristas and wide selection of coffee for reasonable prices.

11. Coffee Room

Looking for great brunch and great coffee? Coffee Room is a unique cafe in Prague thanks to its ample menu, paired with an excellent selection of pastries and, of course, coffee.

This spot is more of a brunch location than a traditional cafe and offers a wide selection of traditional cafe-fare.

Coffee Room has several locations in Prague, but I personally love the Vinohrady location for its ample seating and cozy interior.

12. Eska

Sweet, yeasted dough buns are bunched together in a pan at Prague's ESKA Bakery
The buchty at Eska are truly wonderful!

If Czech baked goods AND great coffee are on your list, you simply can’t do better than Eska. In fact, Eska is probably one of my favorite cafes in Prague, period. The bakery arm of Eska lives on a back street in Prague’s Karlin neighborhood and their pastries are rivaled only by their coffee.

The modern restaurant sits upstairs, while their bakery and coffee shop as well as their mini grocery store live downstairs. On Sundays, they have a lovely brunch in the courtyard out front – but if you’re going to go, reserve in advance!

What to expect? The basics, done well (find the menu here). The Czech breakfast is my favorite, but you simply can’t go wrong here.

13. Cafe Savoy

The interior at Cafe Savoy, one of the best brunch spots in Prague

Perhaps Prague’s most traditional brunch, Cafe Savoy is the whole package. This Viennese-style cafe offers a stunning setting for your morning coffee and breakfast.

When you sit inside and enjoy the delicious food and gorgeous setting, there’s no surprise why this spot frequently ranks among the best brunch spots in Prague.

A woman prepares to eat a pastry at Cafe Savoy, one of the best brunch spots in Prague

It’s hardly a gem, but it’s still worth a visit: their breakfast sets or one of their egg dishes, paired with a coffee and pastry, is the best way to start your day.

14. Kavarna Tvoje Mama

Kavarna Tvoje Mama remains one of my longtime favorites. This cafe and bakery is home to some of the best baked treats in Prague and certainly one of the best cups of coffee in Prague. This little spot in Prague’s Vršovice neighborhood hosts locals and expats like every weekend for a delicious brunch.

On a typical weekend, they may sell out of their most popular pastries – but never fear, there’s usually plenty to go around. Try their buchta buns, kolache, or filled donuts, but don’t leave without trying their coffee and their brunch.

15. The Miners

A person sits outside the front of The Miners, one of the best cafes in Prague for specialty coffee.
Courtesy of The Miners

The Prague chain, The Miners, remains a popular pick for best cafes in Prague thanks to their aesthetic coffee shops and co-working spaces. Since opening their first spot in 2019, the coffee shop has since expanded all around central Europe.

Quality beans and excellent brewing make them stand out – but it’s also a great place for people to sit and talk. Most of their locations have plenty of seating.

16. Mamacoffee

Almost last but certainly not least, one of my first loves in Prague: Mamacoffee. This Prague cafe has several different locations in Prague with cozy seating and a great variety of specialty coffee. Their women’s project roast is lovely, if they have it, as well as their hot chocolate, which veers on the side of bitter (which I love!).

Another great part about Mamacoffee? Their baked goods are delicious. The options vary, but their brownies are frequently some of my favorite in Prague!

If you want to grab some coffee as a souvenir, we’ve bought beans from Mamacoffee several times and always loved them!

17. Kro Coffee

Pastries at Kro Bakery, one of the best bakeries in Prague

What’s better than Kro’s pastries? Their coffee, of course. The Vinohrady location of this popular local bistro offers an airy coffee spot popular among locals. The coffee and hot chocolate here cannot be beat, and it’s a great option if you want to browse local boutique stores nearby, too.

The best part about Kro Coffee & Bakery? Their baked goods are divine, and the selection alternates daily. Kro Bakery has some unbelievable danishes as well as delicious croissants. Their almond croissants, in particular, are fantastic: not too sweet, not too overstuffed. Other highlights include their potato buns and their chlebíčky, open-faced sandwiches that make for a great snack.

18. Letec Espresso Bar

A favorite among locals, Letec Espresso Bar lies on a quiet street in Prague’s Letna neighborhood. The baristas here are top notch, and the Berlin-style coffee is light and airy compared to other, heavier brews.

Courtesy of Letec Espresso Bar

Letec Espresso Bar is also one of the best spots in Prague to grab baked foods: their kolace is excellent, as is their banana bread and their brownie. There aren’t many places to sit, but it’s still worth the stop.

19. VNITROBLOCK

The eclectic interior of the plant shop and coffee shop VNITROBLOCK in Holesovice, one of the best cafes in Prague for specialty coffee.
Courtesy of VNITROBLOCK

VNITROBLOCK has often been called “exceptional” by pretty much everyone I have ever met, and I have a tendency to agree. The coffee here is divine, of course, but their pastry selection is unparalleled too.

It is perhaps Prague’s most aesthetic cafe – but of course, that’s no knock to their excellent food and drink selection.

One of the biggest perks to VNITROBLOCK is their ambiance: you can sit here, relax, and chat with no pressure at all. On a slow Sunday, there’s simply nothing better.

20. Cafe Neustadt

A favorite amongst students, Cafe Neustadt lies in a cozy courtyard – a beautiful escape from the hustle and bustle of New Town.

The coffee isn’t the highlight here; this Prague cafe is about the big picture: they’ve got lovely food, strong WiFi, great coffee and an impressive selection of cakes.

On a warm summer day, the ambiance here is unparalleled.

A big bonus: they have a lovely vegan breakfast here.

21. Industra Coffee

A woman holds a bicycle outside as another man sits and drinks coffee in front of an industrial coffee storefront for Industra Coffee, one of the best cafes in Prague for specialty coffee.

Tucked away next to a vintage store, the notoriously hard to find Industra Coffee is, without a doubt, worth the trip. The founders met working at prestigious coffee shops in London and later founded Industra in Brno back in 2013. The cafe quickly became popular through word of mouth and has since become one of Czech Republic’s best cafes.

Now, the cafe roasts their own beans (and does an excellent job); the ambiance here is peaceful and friendly, the perfect spot to hang out on a sunny day enjoying the sunshine in the courtyard.

What a fantastic guide! I absolutely love Prague, but I have to admit I’ve somehow never focused on its specialty coffee scene, which I clearly need to change since I’m a huge coffee lover. Your post has me convinced I’m missing out! I’m adding IPPA Cafe to my list right now—the idea of trying those famous cakes with a truly excellent coffee sounds like the perfect afternoon. Thanks for sharing this great local’s list!
