17 Best Restaurants in Palma de Mallorca
Palma de Mallorca is a foodie lover’s paradise – don’t skip this stunning city on your way to visit Mallorca’s best beaches. Just short of doing a foodie tour through Palma, decadent cooking class or tapas tour (which I really recommend if you’re short on time!), you’ll need days to experience all the gastronomical wonders of Mallorca’s biggest city. Let’s dive into Palma de Mallorca’s top restaurants – the ones you need to save for later.
1. Aromata
First opened in 2014 by Michelin-starred chef Andreu Genestra, Aromata is a creative take on contemporary Mallorcan cuisine in a casual setting. The Mallorcan-born chef opened this spot in the stunning historic Sa Nostra Cultura Centre in Palma. Guests will be swept away by the beautiful 17th century courtyard and big stone archways even before they receive their meals.
Aromata is a standout in the Palma de Mallorca restaurant scene thanks to its beloved local chef and the restaurant’s approach to local cuisine. There’s a shorter tasting menu at lunch and dinners tend to be more formal with a longer menu.
2. Bondo Cocina
Argentinian cuisine meets Mallorcan flair at this family-owned restaurant in Palma’s Old Town neighborhood: Bondo Cocina. Located on La Lonja, uses local ingredients and specializes in sobrasada, croquettes and garlic shrimp (a must try!). Their innovative tapas dishes will have you coming back for more of this unique market-to-table experience.
3. Brasa Madre
Brasa Madre sits at the center of the winding La Lonja. This family-owned Argentinian restaurant is the perfect spot for tourists and locals alike seeking out the best cocktails and typical meat-forward dishes. The restaurant is known for their dry aged meats as well as their local caught fish and seafood. If you love protein-packed dishes, this is truly one of the best restaurants in Palma de Mallorca. When I visited, the staff was super enthusiastic and friendly and the restaurant seemed to have lots of locals.
4. Mr. Xiao
If you’ve visited Palma de Mallorca before, you know the island’s largest city doesn’t have many decent Chinese restaurants. Mr. Xiao, a stylist spot in Santa Catalina, stands out as one of the best Chinese restaurants in Mallorca. The Pekking duck should be ordered the day before, and it’s not the best you’ll ever have, but it’s absolutely the best you’ll find on Palma.
5. Lume & Co
Relaxed diners, look no further than Lume & Co. This steakhouse is easy going, but the food and service are excellent. Lume & Co is located in an old 15th century building with a beautiful patio section – making it the perfect spot to celebrate nice occasions with family and friends.
6. Dins
Set in an elegant, contemporary dining room, Dins is the new restaurant at the stylish El Lorenç Hotel, one of the best luxury hotels in Mallorca. Chef Santi Tuara – whose restaurant once boasted the second longest waiting list in all of Spain – delivers exceptional Mallorcan cuisine with a personal flare. It’s truly one of the top restaurants in Palma de Mallorca and a can’t miss on your list of the best restaurants in Palma de Mallorca.
7. Quadrat
Mediterranean cuisine meets local ingredients and down home Mallorcan cooking at Quadrat, an upscale restaurant at the former stables of a mansion (now the Hotel Sant Francesc) in the center of Palma. This Michelin pick has a lovely terrace, too, which is perfect for those charming summer evenings.
A word of caution: at the time of writing, Quadrat is only open for dinner Thursday to Monday (with a tasting menu) and lunch on Sundays (with a set menu).
8. Fera
The best restaurants in Mallorca often include Mediterranean-Asian fusion spots, but none perhaps as tasty as Fera, heralded by Chef Simon Petutschnig. Fera sits off El Borne, within a renovated palace complex; the location adds an air of exclusivity unmated by some of the other best restaurants in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. Despite that, the lunch remains an excellent value in Palma, and you can’t go wrong with their beautiful garden seating – complete with tropical plants and palms.
9. Mar de Nudos
Locals in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, often book days ahead for Marco di Loreto’s Mediterranean-meets-Japanese concept, Mar de Nudos. One of the biggest draws here, aside from the food, is the waterfront location at Marina Moll Vell. As you enjoy your food, you’ll hear the waves and smell the lovely ocean breeze. It’s a fantastic location with great views.
10. La Bodeguilla
Two brothers run this La Bodeguilla, a relaxed, upscale restaurant focusing on good wine and even better food. This Michelin pick has a dedicated wine menu with plenty of options to sample the best of Spanish wines. When you’re feeling peckish, head upstairs to their expansive dining room, where barrels are used as tables and tapas overflow.
11. Vandal
Vandal isn’t for everyone – but this edgy, dark restaurant has a certain ambience that suites many. The innovative cocktails are definitely the standout. Expect a dark, intimate, noisy space serving up creative cuisine and some of the best wine pairings in town.
12. La Malvasia
This charming restaurant sits just minutes from the popular Paseo del Borne, nestled away in the shady Plaza del Mercat. You can’t miss it – the restaurant is bright red. Don’t let that turn you away, though. Diners at La Malvasia are spoiled with local wine and quality local ingredients. Their menu is international and each section is separated by land, garden and sea for a true adventure.
13. La Vieja
When you first walk into La Vieja, you’ll be struck by the restaurant’s distinct urban vibes. The restaurant is influenced by the chef’s Canary Islands background, featuring local products and a touch of that Mallorca.
14. Sumaq
Sumaq tackles Peruvian fusion cuisine, which might sound a bit odd, but this Michelin pick couldn’t be more of a shoe-in for the best restaurants in Palma de Mallorca. Their tasting menu places a strong emphasis on flavors and recipes from Peru with a traditional flare. It’s located in a quieter part of town, and you’ll want to book in advance.
15. Stagier Bar
Inventive tapas meet an informal, upscale eatery at Stagier Bar, one of the Michelin Guide’s picks for best restaurants in Mallorca.
This small eatery has mini haute cuisine tapas to share, packed with Latin American flavor. This spot is almost always full – book ahead.
16. Nus
Local chef Irene Martinez opened Nus to put her own unique stamp on the Mallorcan food landscape after working with some of the best chefs on the island.
Don’t skip the decadent red shrimp omelet, fresh tuna tartar or traditional Chinese sea bass.
17. Primo Taqueria
Celebrate street food at Primo Taqueria, a taqueria serving up homemade Mexican-Californian dishes. Their bright interior and punchy decor makes this spot a lively lunch staple for anyone seeking out that bright, fresh taco taste. They also have a great variety of tequilla and Mezcal drinks, too.
