Czech cuisine may be heavy on the meat and potatoes, but the Czech capital city is home to some of the most inventive and delicious vegan food in Europe. In fact, Prague consistently ranks among the top vegan-friendly cities in the world. These vegan restaurants are reinventing Czech food and bringing a plant-based twist to the Czech Republic. Vegetarian Options: Traditional Czech Food
Heading to a Czech pub or Czech restaurant, and wondering whether you can grab some vegetarian or vegan-friendly food? For the most part, traditional Czech food is not vegan or vegetarian friendly – with two clear exceptions. If you find yourself at a traditional Czech pub, don’t skip out on smazeny syr (or: fried cheese!) or smazeny kvetak (or: fried cauliflower). These two traditional Czech dishes are normally vegetarian or vegan friendly – though you may not want to eat them every single day.
Alternatively, I’d avoid the soups, unless they clearly state the broth is vegetarian. Czech chefs will often consider something “vegetarian” if it doesn’t have meat visible. However, they may still use meat broth for soups. So keep this in mind, if you’re at a traditional restaurant!
The Best Vegan & Vegetarian Restaurants in Prague
Seeking out Prague’s best vegan restaurants? These are the top vegan and vegetarian restaurants in Prague, Czech Republic – and, frankly, some of the best restaurants in Prague, period!
Looking for my full and complete list of my favorite restaurants in Prague, with dozens of vegan spots? I got you! Get my Ultimate Foodie Guide to Prague right here with 70+ restaurant recommendations, from Czech food spots to trendy brunch spots to local cafes and sooo much more!!
1. Shromaždiště
Topping the list is one of my favorite restaurants in Prague, hands down: Shromaždiště. This local spot, tucked into one of the beautiful buildings in Zizkov, serves up plant-based Czech food, burgers and other vegan meals. Czech food is so heavy and so rich that the vegan versions of the food work better than the originals, in some cases.
2. Palo Verde Bistro
If you’re seeking out the best all-around vegan food in Prague, you need to stop at Palo Verde Bistro. This local bistro is hands down one of the best vegan restaurants in Prague.
The first time our friends brought us here, we couldn’t believe the food was vegan. It’s delicious and full of flavor. They have a huge variety of vegan food, too. Come for the tasty treats, stay for the stunning interior.
Pro tip: Make a reservation, this spot gets packed!
3. Share Sweet and Espresso Bar
Speaking of Palo Verde…. Share Sweet is run by the same people behind Palo Verde, but this spot offers delicious coffee, heavenly sweets and a smaller selection of lunch items, too. Vegans in Prague might opt for this place for their catering and birthday cake needs – but they also do vegan wedding cakes! Plus, around Christmastime, they do vegan Czech Christmas cookies.
4. Strecha
If you’re looking for the best vegan and vegetarian spots in Prague, don’t skip Strecha. This restaurant serves up Czech classics and delicious burgers close to Prague’s historic center. It’s the perfect spot if you’re sightseeing and need a bite to eat.
One awesome part about Strecha: they are a co-op as well as a restaurant and they employ people who have experienced homelessness or served a sentence – all while helping them with their debts, foreclosures, housing situation or other problems they face. All the most reason to eat here!
5. Chutnej
The concept behind Chutnej is simple: vegan fast food. But it’s not like a vegan MCDonalds or anything… It’s actually a really great burger spot! Chutnej’s restaurant has a lovely ambience with large windows and lots of plants.
We first visited last year and couldn’t stop raving about it afterwards. Their burgers are excellent, as are the fries and onion rings (I adore onion rings!). The homemade lemonade is stellar, as well. It’s a great vegan restaurant option in Prague’s Holesovice neighborhood.
6. Eaternia
This hidden gem in Prague’s Smichov neighborhood is truly one of the most delicious vegan restaurants in Prague! This “jidelna” style spot (read: cafeteria) offers a limited menu of delicious, homemade vegan meals each day – dessert included! Eaternia has a lovely space and great outdoor area. Bonus: it’s close to lots of Czech offices, so the perfect choice for those working nearby.
One thing to keep in mind: the whole vibe of the place is a bit metal, so expect some metal music 🙂
7. Belzepub
No list of Prague’s best vegan restaurants is complete without the iconic Bezlepub. Located in Zizkov, this pub went totally vegan in 2020 and hasn’t looked back. You’ll want to visit Bezlepub if you’re looking for killer vegan burgers. Their vegan chili cheeseburger is iconic, but you really can’t go wrong – especially with their vegan onion rings, vegan fish’n’chips, vegan cheese sticks, and vegan coleslaw.
Pro tip: If you do visit, please check the website first. They have weird hours and they’re not always open! In addition, most nights, they stop serving food around 10 p.m.
8. Dhaba Beas
You’ll see Dhaba Beas everywhere! This local chain offers a buffet of Asian-inspired vegetarian and vegan food in Prague. You’ll grab a tray and weigh the food by the front. Some items, like the samosas, come with an upcharge (but the samosa is SO GOOD!), but for the most part, this is a great, affordable option located all around Prague.
9. Paprika
Full disclosure here: Paprika isn’t a fully vegan restaurant, but hear me out. This Mediterranean spot offers some of the best hummus and falafel in Prague, hands down. It’s one of my favorite cheap eats in Prague, too. The salad is great, too, as is the pita bread. There isn’t much seating, but you’ll manage to find a place.
10. Pastva
Pastva, or grazing, in Czech, is a wonderful little vegan spot in Prague’s Andel neighborhood. I first ate here a couple years back and absolutely loved it! It’s got a great ambience and the food is inventive and delicious. If you have time, I’d recommend stopping by for their affordable lunch menu; their dinner menu is excellent, too (get the lasagna!).
And before you head home, check out their dessert case with plenty of vegan and raw sweet treats!
11. lehká hlava
Lehka Hlava is one of Prague’s oldest vegetarian restaurants – and a favorite with locals. It’s located in Prague’s Old Town on Boršov Street. One of my favorite parts of this vegetarian restaurant? The ceiling sparkles with countless stars in a building that dates back to 1410. How amazing is that?! This vegan restaurant serves up local food which alternates depending on the season.
12. Loving Hut
Loving Hut is an international brand of vegan and vegetarian restaurants – and there are several in Prague, Czech Republic alone! I’d tried Loving Hut for the first time in San Diego and absolutely loved it. This vegan spot is also a buffet-style spot (served by staff). You’ll find many of the Loving Hut locations in malls or shopping complexes.
13. Sandokan Vegan Bistro
Located in Prague’s trendy Vinohrady neighborhood, Sandokan Vegan Bistro is the perfect spot to grab high-quality vegan food in Prague. One nice bonus? They also cater to gluten-free visitors and have multiple gluten-free options. This self-service buffet has veggie salads, hot dishes and more.
Editor’s Note: Best Vegan Restaurants
Prague has SO many vegan restaurants… and this list includes tried-and-true spots I personally love. However, there are so many more vegan restaurants out there.
Several popular options in Prague – such as Maitrea – have not been included because I either have not been, did not like them, or simply think they’re not good value (like Maitrea). This list is constantly being updated once a quarter with new spots and new openings, so save this and come back to it to check the updated list!

All of this food looks SO delicious! Great post!
Thank you!
Love the large selection of vegan restaurants in Prague!
Truly amazing!
While all these restaurants dishes look incredible, I think I would check out Paprika as I love middle eastern vegan food
Paprika is AMAZING – Thank you for reading!
If you look for a user-friendly vegetarian all-you-can-eat place in Prague, then Govinda’s (a well-known worldwide restaurant chain) is a good choice. One is in Prague 1 – Soukenická 27, and another in Prague 8 (Palmovka) – Na hrází 5. The latter is possibly the first vegetarian restaurant in Prague, founded in 1992.
An Indian-Czech cuisine, a Hindu ritual purity standard, fresh vegetables (almost all restaurants use frozen ones), a free water jar on every table (also not a standard in CZ). Govinda Palmovka has vegan Tuesdays and some vegan options also on Thursdays.
This is lovely! I know of this place but I’ve never been, so I can’t vouch for it, but thank you for this tip — I am sure others will find it helpful, and I’ll check it out too 🙂
I am a vegetarian traveller and it is such a relief to know that I do get plenty of veg food options in Prague that too with local Czech touch. Thanks for this article 🙂
Of course! I think Prague has a reputation for meats and potatoes, but there are TONS of options!
